Is The GED Right For My Child?

If you want the best for your child, you already know that a degree is a necessity. In many ways, the world is closed off to those who don’t have a degree. Harder than that are the options for an individual who does not hold a high school diploma or GED. In this day and age, it is almost obligatory to have a high school diploma in order to obtain any job. Most high-paying jobs call for a 2-year or 4-year college degree, but the lowest limit as of now is a high school diploma or GED certificate. Fortunately, it’s never too late to earn one. There are numerous online programs to prime your child for the exam for free.

A GED is a General Equivalency Diploma. This degree is the equivalent of a high school diploma, as it meets all requisites in all of the areas of general education. This involves mathematics, social studies, science, reading, writing and language arts that would be learned up to and through the high school senior year. The questions on these tests involve complex math equations, scientific reasoning, proper grammar, vocabulary and short essay questions. There are various online programs to assist your student as well as track their development. For even more help, there are practice quizzes, all of which are available online. These tests can also be taken in any way or order you or your student wish.  Some sites also give lists of formulas that may be on the test. There are even video tutorials on answering sample test questions and how to use a calculator for the test. Every child has the capability to grasp and understand the skills necessary to earn a GED or high school diploma.

Although online test training is free (there are some sites that do have fees, but the majority are free), the GED examination itself itself does have a price. The test is given by each state government individually. It is not administered by the federal government, so the guidelines and costs may vary somewhat. Generally though, the GED examination overall costs around $100. Also, remember that the GED test cannot be done online. It must be taken in an exam center which the state government determines and sets up. The test is not available online in order to stave off any attempts of cheating. For now, this test can only be taken with a pencil and paper. In order to take the test, you must schedule a test date. There are typically a ready amount of testing spots and frequent test dates. Be sure your child is well-prepared for the test date.

If you long for the best for your child, urge them to earn a high school diploma. If it’s too late for that, make certain to have them receive a GED.
